Recommended Circuit Breakers, Fuses, and Extending the Battery Leads

Circuit Breaker/Inline Fuse

When rigging your trolling motor, we recommend using a circuit breaker or an inline fuse connected to the positive battery terminal as close as possible to the battery / batteries

For safety and compliance reasons, we recommend that you follow American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) standards when rigging your boat. Altering boat wiring should be completed by a qualified marine technician. The following specifications are for general guidelines only:

Extending the Battery Leads

If the battery leads on your motor are not long enough to reach the battery/batteries, you can extend the leads. The chart below will show what gauge wire to use based on the distance from the end of the battery leads to the battery.

If you need to add more than 25 feet, we recommend the extension be completed by a qualified marine technician.

Wire Gauge and Circuit Breaker/Inline Fuse Size

This conductor and circuit breaker sizing table is only valid for the following assumptions:

  1. No more than 2 conductors are bundled together inside of a sheath or conduit outside of engine spaces.
  2. Each conductor has 105° C temp rated insulation.
  3. No more than 5% voltage drop allowed at full motor power based on published product power requirements.
