Bluetooth i-Pilot Link Remotes
"Motor Not Found" Error | Remote not turning on | "Motor Error" | “RF error” | Charging Cable Connected, Indicator Not Showing
Common issues for Bluetooth i-Pilot Link Remotes include connectivity problems, pairing difficulties, or unresponsive controls. "Motor Not Found" Error
The i-Pilot Link remote is not recognizing the motor and needs to be paired or there is no power going to the motor or control head.
- Verify the motor is powered on
- Pair the remote to the controller. Click here for instructions to pair the remote and the i-Pilot Link Controller.
- Check the network connector
- Check the i-Pilot link network plug connection in the control head to verify that it is fully attached.
- Connected properly there should be no yellow visible between the male and female plug.
- Check connections for the trolling motor battery(ies)
- Verify all connection points are proper, clean and show no sign of corrosion.
- Load Test the trolling motor battery(ies)
- Have the trolling motor battery(ies) Load Tested at an automotive part store or marine dealer. Load testing is very helpful in determining if the battery is the cause of some issues.
Remote not turning on
- Turn on the remote by pressing the OK key.
- Charge the remote and ensure charging cable is fully seated when charging. If the remote will not turn on after charging, you may need to replace the battery or the charger.
Charging the Remote
Connect the remote to the charger. When connected you should see a red LED on the remote
You should be able to press the OK button to turn the remote on
Replacement Parts
If the remote still does not turn on, you may need to replace the battery or the charger.
- 3.7 volt, 1200mAh rechargeable Lithium battery with white connector, part number 2390710
- Charging cable, part number 2373241
To Replace the Battery:
- With the remote upside down, remove the 4 screws that hold the back of the remote in place.
- Remove back cover and old battery and disconnect the battery connector from the remote with the white connector.
- Connect the battery connector for the replacement battery and insert the battery into the battery cavity.
- Replace back cover and the 4 back screws.
"Motor Error"
This error message indicates there is a potential problem or obstruction with the trolling motor.
- Power cycle the motor. The motor may have not been recognized correctly at initial power up.
- Check the i-Pilot network plug.
- Verify the network plug is fully seated. Connected properly there should be no yellow visible between the male and female plug.
If these steps do not correct the issue, we recommend taking the motor to an Authorized Service Provider for diagnosis and repair.
“RF error”
The screen on the 3.0 remote displaying “RF error” indicates a fatal error with the remote. The remote needs to be replaced.
Charging Cable Connected, Indicator Not Showing
- Ensure the remote charger cable (USB) end is receiving power from the AC adapter or the alternate power source being used.
- Look inside the charging port on the bottom end of the remote. You should clearly see two metallic contacts. Use an appropriate tool to clean out any debris that may have accumulated in the charging port.
- The end of the remote charger cable (USB) that plugs into the remote includes two spring pins. Ensure the pins are clean and spring back out when pushed in.
- If the charger is not working you can replace the charger.
- If replacing the charger does not resolve the issue, you will need to replace the remote.
Legacy i-Pilot Link Remotes

Motor doesn't always respond to button presses
The motor not responding can be the result of low voltage in either the remote or the trolling motor.
- Check the status of the battery icon on the remote. If it is low, connect the remote to the charger.
- Check the status of the battery indicator on the trolling motor. If it is low, connect the battery(ies) to the charger.
- If this doesn't correct the issue, you may have a faulty remote, remote battery or trolling motor battery(ies).
Charging Cable Connected, Indicator Not Showing
- Verify that the remote charger cable (USB) end is receiving power from the AC adapter or the alternate power source being used.
- Inspect the charging port at the bottom of the remote. Ensure that the two metallic contacts inside the port are visible and clean. Remove any debris using an appropriate tool.
- Examine the end of the remote charger cable (USB) that plugs into the remote. Make sure the spring pins are clean and function properly by springing back out when pushed in.
- If the charger is not working you can replace the charger.
- If replacing the charger does not resolve the issue, you will need to replace the remote.
