Changing GPS Position Format

The GPS Position Format determines how latitude and longitude coordinates are displayed and entered on your fish finder. When manually entering navigation data, such as waypoints, the Position Format on the fish finder must match the format of the coordinates being entered. If the formats do not match, the waypoint may appear several miles from the intended location.

GPS Position Formats

A Series, X Series and XPLORE, APEX, SOLIX and ONIX

These fish finders display GPS coordinates using one of three formats:

  • ddd°mm'ss.s" – Degrees Minutes Seconds
  • ddd°mm.mmm' – Decimal Minutes
  • ddd.ddddd° – Decimal Degrees

HELIX and Legacy Models

HELIX and Legacy models use the same three coordinate types but display them slightly differently:

  • dd°mm'ss" – Degrees Minutes Seconds
  • dd°mm.mmm' – Decimal Minutes
  • dd.ddddd° – Decimal Degrees

Note: When entering Degrees Minutes Seconds coordinates on a HELIX or Legacy model, the seconds may need to be rounded to fit the number of digits supported by the fish finder.

Example: If the original coordinate is N 031°50'39.6", enter it on a HELIX or Legacy model as N 31°50'40". The final digit is used to round the seconds up or down.
