Adjusting the Boat Scale for Advanced GPS Navigation

Trolling motor performance can be affected by many factors, including wind, water conditions, boat design, battery condition, wiring, and overall load. Boat Scale allows you to adjust how the trolling motor responds in navigation modes to better account for these variables.

From the factory, Minn Kota trolling motors are set to a Boat Scale of 0, which assumes the motor and boat are properly matched. Boat Scale can be adjusted from ‑2 to +2 to decrease or increase how aggressively the motor applies power during navigation features such as Spot‑Lock.

When to adjust Boat Scale

Decrease Boat Scale (‑1 or ‑2) if the motor is over‑correcting, making frequent or aggressive adjustments while holding position.
- Start by setting Boat Scale to ‑1.
- If the behavior continues, reduce it further to ‑2.
Increase Boat Scale (+1 or +2) if the boat is drifting away from the target location or the motor struggles to make corrections.
- Start by increasing Boat Scale to +1.
- If needed, increase it to +2 to improve holding accuracy.

The Bluetooth Micro Remote does not support Boat Scale adjustments.

Adjusting Boat Scale with the Wireless Remote

With the trolling motor powered on, press the Menu button on the Wireless Remote.
Use the Speed Up or Speed Down buttons to locate Motor Settings, then press Steer Right to select it.
In the Motor Settings menu, scroll to Setup/Calibration.
In Setup/Calibration, scroll to Boat Scale.
Use Steer Left or Steer Right to select one of the five settings: ‑2, ‑1, 0, +1, or +2.
Press and hold to close the Boat Scale menu and return to the Dashboard. The selected Boat Scale setting is saved automatically.
