Using the Engine Mount (EM) (1998-2021)

Engine Mount Bracket

There is only one bracket for the EM. Before purchasing an EM, make sure to measure from the cavitation plate of the outboard to the waterline. You must have a minimum of 13". If you don't, the EM will not work on your application.

The bracket is made up of two parts – the Lower Bracket which attaches to the cavitation plate of the outboard motor with 6 bolts, washers, and nuts. The top cap goes over the top of the motor and attaches to the lower bracket.

Engine Mount Hand Control Features

The hand controller is equipped with 18 feet of cable and is designed to be installed at or near the driver’s seat. The speed control may be operated in either direction, forward or reverse. Turn the knob counterclockwise from (OFF) to increase reverse speed and clockwise from (OFF) to increase forward speed. Speed decreases as you approach Off.

Engine Mount Control Module

The control module is what allows power to pass through to the motor. It controls the variation in speed.

Engine Mount Cords

The length of the two conductor leads coming from the control module output (the wires going to the motor unit), are only about one foot long. The length of wire that comes from the motor unit and goes to the short lead coming from the module is 12-foot and the hand control has an 18-foot cord.

Mounting Requirements

  • Minimum clearance required from spine of outboard to end of cavitation plate (see diagram below).
  • Cavitation plate to waterline 13" (minimum).

  • Engine Mount motors mount to the cavitation plate of an outboard.
  • The cavitation plate must be at least 6” wide
  • The spine of the outboard must be less than 3 1/8” wide
  • To be effective, the motor requires at least 13” from the waterline to the top of the cavitation plate.
  • When on plane, the cavitation plate cannot be more than 1” below the waterline.

Using the EM on a Pontoon or Sailboat Rudder

The EM motor is designed specifically for installation on the anti-cavitation of an outboard or IO lower unit on a planning typed boat hull (a hull that lifts the EM motors out of the water when the boat is "on plane"). Also, mounting the EM motor on the rudder of a sailboat is not what the EM motor was designed for and would add considerable drag to the boat when under sail.

Using two Engine Mounts and Controlling them with one Controller

Each EM has its own controller. The controller is not designed to control two EMs.
