Using LED Lights to Troubleshoot
The charger uses a combination of red, yellow, and green LED indicators to display charging progress, battery status, and fault conditions for each charging bank. By observing the LED color, pattern (solid, flashing, or blinking), and any accompanying charge‑level indicators, you can quickly identify normal operation, wiring issues, battery problems, or charger faults. Use the sections below to understand what each LED pattern means and what action, if any, is required.
- Solid Red LED
- Flashing Red LED with Solid 25% Yellow LED
- Flashing Red LED with Solid 50% Yellow LED
- Flashing Red LED with Solid 75% Yellow LED
- Blinking Red LED with Solid 25%, 50%, and 75% Yellow LEDs
- Flashing Green LED with Solid 25% Yellow LED
- Battery Type light appears to return to Flooded Lead Acid after setting Battery Type
- Charger Powers On, Then Turns Off
Solid Red LED
A solid red LED indicates one of the following conditions:
- No battery is connected to the output cord, or a blown fuse is present in the fuse holder
- Battery is connected with reverse polarity
- Short circuit condition
- Battery voltage is below 0.5 volts
- Battery voltage is above 16 volts
The charger will not charge the battery under these conditions. If the charger is set to Lithium Mode, it will attempt to wake the battery from Standby Mode when applicable.
Flashing Red LED with Solid 25% Yellow LED
- The battery did not rise above 10.5 volts within the required time limit, or
- The battery did not complete the Bulk charging stage within the required time limit
This typically indicates a damaged battery. Charging will not continue.
Flashing Red LED with Solid 50% Yellow LED
- Temperature sensor failure detected
The affected charging bank will not operate while this condition is present.
Flashing Red LED with Solid 75% Yellow LED
- Charger has overheated
Unplug the charger and allow it to cool completely before resuming operation.
Blinking Red LED with Solid 25%, 50%, and 75% Yellow LEDs
- Charger is set to Lithium Mode and exceeded the allowed number of attempts to wake the battery from Standby Mode
Flashing Green LED with Solid 25% Yellow LED
- Battery voltage is below 10.5 volts and the charger is operating in low‑power safety mode
Normal charging will begin once the battery voltage rises above 10.5 volts. If voltage does not increase, disconnect all loads from the battery and try again.
Battery Type Light Appears to Return to Flooded Lead Acid After Setting Battery Type
Condition
After selecting a battery type other than Flooded Lead Acid, the indicator light appears to switch back to Flooded Lead Acid.
Explanation
This is normal operation. After the Battery Selection button is released, the yellow LED changes from indicating the selected battery type to indicating the battery charge level. After the Battery Selection button is released, the yellow LED changes from indicating the selected battery type to indicating the battery charge level. After releasing the Battery Selection button is released, the charger will show the current state of charge for the battery.
What to Do
- The battery type selection has been saved correctly.
- To confirm the selected battery type, press and release the Battery Selection button.
- The yellow LED next to the selected battery type will illuminate for approximately two seconds.
No corrective action is required.
Charger Powers On, Then Turns Off
Possible causes include:
- Insufficient power at the end of an extension cord
- Extension cord wire gauge (AWG) is too small
- Very low AC voltage supplied to the charger
Verify AC power and refer to the recommended extension cord gauge chart before retrying.
