How to Install the MKR‑15 Transducer Mounting Kit
Before You Begin
- Confirm your trolling motor lower unit size is compatible
- Verify that your transducer is a transom‑mount style
- Review any installation guidance provided by your transducer manufacturer
Built‑In Transducer Compatibility Considerations
Your trolling motor may come with a Mega Side and Down Imaging (MSI), Mega Down Imaging (MDI), Dual Spectrum CHIRP (DSC), or a Universal Sonar 2 (US2) transducer built into the lower unit. The built‑in transducer may interfere with mounting an external transducer, depending on the size of the external transducer. Additionally, having two transducers mounted close to each other may cause signal interference.
General Installation Overview
Installation steps may vary slightly depending on the transducer brand and model. Always follow the transducer manufacturer’s instructions in addition to these general guidelines.
- Position the MKR‑15 mounting bracket on the trolling motor lower unit so the transducer will sit level and face forward.
- Attach the transducer to the mounting bracket using the hardware provided with the transducer.
- Secure the bracket assembly to the trolling motor lower unit using the MKR‑15 mounting hardware, ensuring a snug fit without over‑tightening.
- Route the transducer cable up the trolling motor shaft, leaving enough slack at pivot points to allow full steering and stow/deploy movement.
- Secure the cable along the shaft using cable ties or wraps, keeping it clear of moving parts.
- Connect the transducer cable to the fish finder according to the electronics manufacturer’s instructions.
Note: When installing an external transducer on an Ulterra, Riptide Ulterra, or Riptide Instinct QUEST, ensure the transducer cable is routed carefully so it does not become pinched during stow and deploy operations.
After installation, deploy the trolling motor and confirm the transducer is properly aligned and does not interfere with motor operation.
